So I know I keep saying “I’m going to update more! Promise!”. Oops… Needless to say I haven’t kept up with that promise. Hopefully, I can get my butt in gear if I force myself to post at least once a week, if I have an RSS feed going. And of course, I’m still trying to work out the kinks – so that may be a while. For something supposedly so simple to do, why can’t I get it to work?!
So lots of things have happened since my last post. Granted, even the most boring person would probably have something happen with the span of time that I put in between posting… This post has stuff from January through March. anywho…
Happy Mother’s Day (belated) to all those mothers who love unconditionally and take wonderful care of their kids, no matter what age! Including my mom and sister, grandmas, and all of the aunts.
Speaking of kids….
I have a new nephew! Well, Jake’s (NOT named after the Twilight character) 4 months old now. But he’s tied for cutest baby ever! (with my other nephew, of course!) We already had his naming and hair cutting party in March. Take a look at some pics on my flickr account. It’s great – it’s so easy to get Jake to laugh and smile! And he’s quite talkative (with his gurgles). It’s adorable when Will comes over to give him hugs and kisses!
Will is running around and hyper as ever! His thing now is playing inside a large Amazon.com box – who knew that something as simple as opening and closing the top flap of a box can make a kid giggle non-stop for 10 minutes! I definitely have to give my sister props for taking care of 2 kids under the age of 2- running around and playing with Will, while tending to Jake with 4 hours of sleep! I’m exhausted after spending a few hours playing with Will!
Let’s see, what else…
In February, theeDorks gave Carina a surprise birthday dinner. We made spinach dip and Pad Thai, got a cake, watched “500 Days of Summer,” and played “Scene It: Twilight” edition. haha. It was a pretty fun night – the food was really good, I even made Pad Thai at home a few weeks later.

“500 Days of Summer” was pretty good – a bit confusing if you don’t pay attention when the days jump back and forth. Joseph Gordon-Levitt was great in it – he plays depressed really well, haha. And his little freak out was pretty funny too. The movie was a little depressing, but I guess I’m ok with how it ended – definitely different than what I thought was going to happen.

“Scene It: Twilight” edition was pretty funny while we played. Although, I have to admit, all of us got most of the questions right (sigh… I can hear the sneers, snickers, and sighs of slight disappointment now) :P Rachel got it as her Secret Santa gift from one of her co-workers.
In March, we went into the city for Tida’s birthday dinner. Korean bbq – deeeeelicious! The food was great, but a little awkward to get to with the number of people at the table. That, and the whole sharing with chopsticks thing – not so much the chopsticks, but the actual touching of the food with the chopsticks that you ate with….. But the food was really good!
March was also the Daughtry/Lifehouse concert- I went mainly to see Lifehouse. I love this band! They were excellent in concert – and sounded just like their albums, just louder, more exciting, and with talking in between. Jason Wade is amazing! He even went into the audience! The only downside is that we had floor seats – not a good idea if you’re really short and everyone decides to stand.

This is my first attempt at a layered fondant cake. I made this for my mom’s birthday (as you can see). It was organic vanilla cake with homemade vanilla bean canolli cream with fresh blueberries.

I definitely need to work on my fondant work – I made it a bit too small and the corners started to crack. Also, I didn’t know how to merge the seams together. I definitely tried to hide these problems with those little white buds of royal icing – haha.
I also made gum paste flowers by hand – roses, random yellow flowers, and leaves filled with chocolate, and green veins with royal icing.
Making a cake with fondant is a lot of work! Maybe I’ll stick to mostly cookies and cupcakes, and leave cakes to special occasions.
I watched “Paper Heart” this weekend. When i saw the trailers on TV it seemed like it was going to be a pretty good documentary. After watching it, I find it to be a mix of both good and bad interesting. It was a bit weird, awkward, and pleasant all at the same time.

I liked Charlyne Yi’s interviews better than the parts of the film that showed her relationship with Michael Cera. I can’t tell if they were really in a relationship, or if they were just acting for the movie. I’m kind of over Michael Cera now; he acts the same in all of his movies and it’s getting pretty tiresome.
As for the concept of the movie, it’s a great concept, but the movie didn’t really do the concept justice. The movie could have been a lot better, parts of it were a bit disappointing. Basically, Charlyne doesn’t believe in love and so she travels the country in search of people who know what love is and try to convince her of it. I like that she interviewed a whole range of peoples’ opinions about love; from little kids on the playground to divorcees, to couples who have been together for 60 years, to scientists and college professors. She should have ran with that idea. I could use a little less awkward on screen moments with her and Michael Cera, and her and her director friend.
On a side note, I’m still updating or trying to fix things like the comments on my blog.
