blog archive Wednesday June 29, 2005 | Mystique, Art Exhibit, Senior Week, Graduation, & Cherries!

Well, it’s been a while, actually a really long while since writing. Let’s see what’s happened since then…

Some major events have been:

So let’s start…

My last Mystique was great, except for the fact that it was raining cats and dogs, so we didn’t sell out like usual. This year I sang “A Love Before Time” from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon with Kat, in MANDARIN! (for those of you who know me, I don’t speak an ounce of Chinese). I also sang the national anthem with 6 other people acapella, danced Chinese ribbon dance, and danced and helped choreograph a Chinese fan dance. It was a little hectic during my last semester, but it was a lot of fun. Definitely had a great workout for those 4 months.

The spring semi was great! It was at Diamond’s Riverside, and the theme was “An Affair to Remember” set in Old Hollywood style. My date… or should I say dates… were a few of my friends. The night was fun. It went by so quickly, and at the end everyone was so surprised that it was already over! Thanks for the fun and the memories!

Well, I’ve been working on my Senior Fine Arts Thesis for the last semester. It finally paid off in the end. My work was straight across from the entrance, so it was the first one that you saw. I worked my butt off to finish 6 charcoal portraits, a 24“x30” poster, a digital music video, and an interactive program.© My thesis was based on my perceptions of what stereotypes are placed on Asian Americans in society. The portraits were entitled various racial slurs that the subject has been called, such as “oriental,” “chink,” and “charlie.“© The poster contained images of how Asians are perceived in the media©. My digital music video was in retaliation to that sh*tty-*ss “Tsunami Song” and combined images from various news coverage of the tragedy, and Jin’s response song©. My interactive program had a list of Asian stereotypes and then examples of Asian Americans who broke them ©.

From May 10 until May 13, the TCNJ Class of 2005 became freshmen again. We moved into Travers and Wolfe, aka The Towers, for Senior Week 2005. I was on Wolfe 1, with the rest of my girls. It was so much fun! At the beginning of Senior Week I had made a ‘goal’ with my friends that in order for me to graduate, well at least happily, I had to get a picture of someone, and have to take a picture with another someone. Let’s just say that I graduatated happily! On the first day, after registration and move in, we had a luncheon and then had a 2 and 1/2 hour bus ride down to AC. I ended up ‘losing’ but not my own money. It wasn’t bad, except for the fact that it was freezing out, so I was stuck in the Taj. Actually, I spent the majority of the night waiting in line, and at the Hard Rock Cafe. That was quite amusing because Carly did a blow-job shot in the middle of the restaurant for her birthday. After getting back at 3 am, the next day we spent 5 hours outside for the senior picnic on Green Lane fields. The school had set up some activities for us, like an inflatable foam dance area, mechanical bull ride, and a giant slip and slide. I didn’t really participate in these, which kinda sucked, but I did have great fun watching my friends making *sses of themselves. And let’s just say that some guys at TCNJ should walk around without shirts more often. And that I should have taken a picture of one of my “goals.” After being cooked for about 5 hours, we went to Bar Anticipation (BarA) in Belmar. It was fun- I danced a lot, actually almost the entire time! And by chance, always next to my ‘goal’…LOTS! But I was ready to go at 1, considering we had been there since 8 that night. The next day, we went to Great Adventures for half a day. Rachel went on her first rollercoaster- Batman the Chiller- and survived! (haha) Since the lines were kinda long and we only had half a day, I didn’t get to go on that many rides. But Katie was able to get a pic of one of my ‘goals’ The downside is that he’s kinda far away, but good enough. Later that night, was the last event before graduation the next morning at 8 am! It was our Senior Semi-Formal/Senior Send-Off at the Cherry Hill Hilton. Everyone was dressed up (though a little drunk), the food was pretty good, and the music was great. I have to admit, I’ve never seen the Senior Class that tight with one another, even if we didn’t know everyone’s names. I took bunches and bunches of pictures, and I even completed my other ‘goal’- I took a picture with my ‘goal’!

After getting about only 2 hours of sleep, it was graduation time! Our honorees were John Corzine and Troy Vincent. I was a little dispointed because I wasn’t able to take pictures with my friends before and/or during graduation. We just stood with our schools. I was, however, impressed with the speech that the Senior class president made. He remembered little inside jokes of the Class of 2005, that we all experienced freshman year- such as ‘Standing Ovations,’ ‘Athens to NY,’ and ‘Playfair.’ Afterwards, we all left for department ceremonies. I had 2 to go to- Interactive Multimedia and Fine Arts. I just made it in time for my art graduation, because IMM took longer than I expected, even though we only had 4 graduates this year (being that were the the first graduation class of this major). Sigh Now that I’m out of school, I wish I could do this last semester again

So my cousin’s high school graduation party was a few weeks after. It was, you know, the typical family get-together. Except for the MC. UGH! He was the same MC that Tiff and I had for our high school grad parties… 4 YEARS ago! Majorly creepy- he’s actually a year younger than me, but looks like he’s 30! He told my aunt, my dad, and me, that he didn’t remember anyone in the family except for me. Blech! And then he called me, on the microphone in front of my family, out to dance, so I freakin’ had to go up, so I danced with Tiff. He then comes over, takes my hand and freakin’ danced with me! I wish my arms were longer! I did however think that the DJ was cute- blonde hair, blue eyes, etc. I wanted to talk to him, but didn’t know how, so I didn’t. (I’m never good at talking to guys. ) But anyways, so I told my aunt that I thought that the DJ was cute. She said that he was cute and that she’d try to hook us up. So at the end of the party, my aunt pulls me to the side and says she ‘got his number, but do you think you can handle him? His very outgoing.’ I thought to myself ‘OMG!’ But I said, ‘Wait. was it the MC? He was quiet, the one with the blonde hair?’ She said,’ Oh, no, I got (DJ’s) number. He didn’t seem like your type. He said that you could call whenever. Do you still want the number?’ After my eyes bugged, I was like, ‘Nah, I’m good.’ as I shivered, even though it was like 80 degrees.

On the 22nd, it was my brother’s graduation from high school. The day started off good, and then started to rain about 3 hours before the ceremony. But thank goodness it stopped, and the ceremony was held outside. The rain held off for the most part. Until the history student speaker gave his speech. It was so bad, that it started to pour! People started leaving. After a little while, it subsided alittle. They ended up cutting the speeches, and just handed out the diplomas. I did get to see my band director, which was cool, so now a bunch of us can hang out, without having to go to a complete different town like 30 minutes away!

On Saturday, Tiff, two of her friends (Lily and Vivian), and I went cherry picking in New York state. That was crazy! It was 90 degrees out! Let’s just say, I’m never doing that ever again! But at least, now I can say that I picked cherries. But from now on, I’m just going to go to the supermarket and pick cherries there. Silly enough, cherries are on sale for like $1/lb. I ended up picking about 3 1/2 lbs. at $1.75/lb.

That’s basically everything that I’ve done lately.

Till then, toodles!
